Pool Arts

We work closely with Ardwick based artist led studio Pool Arts.

Members run the organisation, which is a registered charity that aims to offer affordable studios, peer support, mentoring and exhibition opportunities to artists in the Manchester area who are disadvantaged.

Our artist in residence and co-ordinator Alison Kershaw, supports the work of Pool Arts, offering admin support and creative direction for projects, as well as mentoring individuals towards their goals alongside Pool Arts own artist mentor. About St Luke's Art

PLEASE NOTE WE NOW OPERATE OUR ART PROJECT FROM POOL ARTS STUDIO on Grosvenor Street, Ardwick - please call us for further information on 01612581779 / 07767356302.

The St Luke's Art Project enables people, including those with mental health needs, to develop their art practice in a safe, comfortable space. The Art Project is organised by artist Alison Kershaw, along with a small team of professional artists.

We offer drawing and painting facilities and skills support. We also enable access to digital arts, including using software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or Indesign. These industry standard graphics package are not usually available for beginners, but we believe in allowing access to the best materials and facilities we can possibly provide.

Our media artist Rae also runs projects where participants use sound recording as the medium for exploring the world around us. They have played their audioscapes in London, Japan and locally via our Micro Radio Listening Post.

If you would like to be involved, just contact us to arrange a visit. The Art Project can even find an artist for your event who will work with your visitors on a creative project... simply let us know what you would like.

  • More than 100 people have seen their skills, self-expression, and confidence improve through our Art Project
  • Pool Arts, a user-managed organisation developed by beneficiaries of the Art Project alongside other artists from diverse backgrounds including professional artists
  • We have had major art commissions, involving over 100 participants in performances, publications and exhibitions

"A grass roots organisation, motivated by genuine concern for the well-being of others, at the centre of which are core values of kindness, warmth, a listening ear and an open door. Through this combination, all the activities on offer seek to bring about a sense of wholesness and healing."

Dr R Story, 2009
